PURPOSE:To enable smoothing processing for the preservation of image edges and moire suppression and to provide high-accuracy images by combining comparatively simple image processing such as inter image differential arithmetic and spatial filter arithmetic or the like. CONSTITUTION:An image forming device 1 is provided with an image input part 3 to scan the image information of an input image original for the unit of a picture element and to read it by sampling, input correction part 5 to perform shading correction and input gamma correction to the image information, and picture quality improving image processing part 7 to automatically identify the features of the provided image information, to identify the respective areas of a dot, character and half tone and to improve picture quality by performing smoothing processing to the dot area, performing sharpening processing to the character area and performing adaptive mixing processing to the half tone area. Thus, the processing part 7 extracts the feature of the image corresponding to the rise/fall of the edge in the image information from the correction part 5, this feature is compared with an identification reference value set in advance, and the three areas are identified by using the result. Afterwards, the processed image information is outputted from an output correction part 9. |
