A free-wheel mechanism forms part of an automatic automotive gear box, and has an outer ring (2) with an inner slip surface (3), and inner ring (4) and shaft with an outer slip surface (5). The free wheel mechanism is (6) located between the two slip surfaces (3, 5) and has a number of clamps (7) located in windows (9) within a caged (8) cylindrical component (8a). The clamps couple the outer and inner rings (2, 5) in one direction.
