PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for an electroneurostimulator, which system enables smooth transition between electrode configurations during current steering.SOLUTION: A system for an electroneurostimulator coupled to a plurality of electrode comprises: a remote measurement circuit configured for communication with the electroneurostimulator; and a controller/processor. The controller/processor is configured to: define an immediate electrode configuration and deliver electric energy to the plurality of electrodes according to the immediate electrode configuration; define a final electrode configuration and define a series of intermediate electrode configurations, using a heuristic set of rules based on the immediate electrode configuration and the final electrode configuration; and instruct the electroneurostimulator to deliver electric energy to the plurality of the electrodes according to the series of intermediate electrode configurations and instruct the electroneurostimulator to deliver electric energy to the plurality of the electrodes according to the subsequent electrode configuration. The heuristic set of rules regulates the shifting of currents between the series of intermediate electrode configurations.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15B
