Device for a remelting furnace with weight dependent control of the melting rate of the electrodes to be remelted has a hollow electrode rod, sealed on the outside, which passes through the furnace wall and can be moved lengthways, whose lower end is open to a furnace, and a console shaped as an electrode rod hanger which can be moved by a drive in the feed direction. There is a compensating vessel (3) fixed to the upper end (2) of the electrode rod (1), and attached to the console (5). A tubular pipe holder (11) surrounded in a gas-tight manner by a variable size seal extends upwards from the vessel (3) and on its part surrounds a draw bar (12). The holder (11) is supported by at least one weight bearer (22) on the compensating vessel (3), and on the other hand runs on the inside of the vessel where it is linked in a gastight manner to the vessel base.
