Microbial body applicable as food and feed can be obtd. economically by culturing novel bacteria in the culture medium contg. methanol as carbon source. The method is characterised by culturing novel bacterium Methylomonas probus in the culture medium contg. methanol as the major carbon source and inorganic nitrients and sepg. and collecting multiplied bacterial body. The bacterium can be multiplied rapidly and can keep rapid velocity even in the medium having methanol concn. as high as 4%. Obtained bacterial body contains crude protein 80%.
