A method for curing a coating agent for surfaces by applying an oxidatively drying coating composition onto the surfaces and exposing the said oxidatively drying coating composition to the action of an oxidizing agent wherein the said coating composition comprises at least one oxidatively drying binder which is an alkyd resin, and at least one drying agent acting as an accelerator of the drying and curing process proceeding under the action of the said oxidizing agent, wherein the said drying agent comprises at least one oxidoreductase enzyme, a salt of iron or a complex compound of iron, and at least one mediator, wherein the mediator is oxidized by the said oxidizing agent with cooperation of the said at least one oxidoreductase enzyme, and then in a subsequent reaction, the mediator oxidizes the said oxidatively drying binder, the mediator thereby being converted to its reduced form.
