PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for identifying a visitor using local radio communication are to provide a local radio communication module to an existing interphone for identifying the visitor, thereby providing convenience to a user. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for identifying a visitor using local radio communication comprises a multipurpose remote controller having a radio telephone function and an image output function; a local radio communication module(3') disposed in an existing interphone(7) and connected through a base station(6) allowing a picture communication to a radio telephone. In the apparatus, the multipurpose remote controller comprises a mode converting portion for converting a function of the remote controller; a high frequency modulating portion for transceiving an RF(Radio Frequency) signal through the local radio communication module in a local radio communication mode, and converting an input frequency into a high frequency to allow the local radio communication; and a low frequency modulating portion for converting the input frequency into a low frequency to control various home electronics.
