<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a fast modulation and to deal with lights of various wavelengths in a surface plasmon optical modulating device. SOLUTION: This surface plasmon optical modulating device is obtd. by forming a metal film 12 on one face 11a of a dielectric block 11 arranged in such a manner that the light 10 to be modulated propagates in the block to be incident on the face 11a at the total reflection angle, and forming an optical functional film 13 which changes its refractive index by irradiation of light on the film 12, and the optical functional film 13 is irradiated with modulation driving light 14 emitted from a driving light source 15. The optical functional film 13 is formed by using dyes containing an electron donating material and an electron accepting material in which photoelectrons can move.</p> |
