<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar light source having a large variable width of irradiation angle of illumination light, a display device having a large variable width of angle of field using the planar light source, a mobile terminal device using it, and a light direction changing element incorporated in the planar light source. <P>SOLUTION: The planar light source is provided with a light direction regulating element (louver 12) which controls the direction of light and a transparency/scattering switching element 22 which can change transparency and scattering state by switching on and off of a impressing voltage between a backlight 13 and a liquid crystal panel 21. Thereby, the variable width of the irradiation angle of light in the planar light source can be made larger, and also the variable width of the angle of field of the liquid crystal display device using the planar light source can be made larger. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
