<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a drop in power generation capacity caused by nitrogen without uselessly exhausting unreacted hydrogen in a fuel cell and a fuel cell system. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system is equipped with a fuel cell 100 generating electric power by the battery reaction of oxidizing gas with fuel gas, a fuel gas passage (for example, fuel off-gas passage 173) through which fuel gas mixed with nitrogen flows, and a nitrogen trapping means (for example, a nitrogen adsorbing chamber 510) installed in the fuel gas passage and selectively trapping only nitrogen mixed with the fuel gas. As a result, only the mixed nitrogen is selectively removed from the fuel gas, and a drop in power generation capacity caused by the nitrogen can be prevented without uselessly exhausting unreacted hydrogen. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
