Identifying road hazards

An approach is provided for identifying, from a moving vehicle, an object proximate to a direction of the moving vehicle. The identified object is illuminated with a colored laser light with the colored laser light emanating from a laser included in the vehicle.

1. A method comprising:
identifying, from a moving vehicle, an object proximate to a direction of the moving vehicle; illuminating the identified object with a colored laser light, wherein the colored laser light emanates from a laser included in the vehicle; determining whether the identified object is an animate object by detecting movement or infrared signature of the object using an animate object detector included in the vehicle; selecting a first color to use as the colored laser light in response to determining that the identified object is animate; and selecting a second color to use as the colored laser in response to determining that the identified object is inanimate.
