PURPOSE:To control any harmful matter in exhaust gases in an effective manner by making up the outlet of an adsorptive passage so as to converge in the upstream of a specified catalytic body in a catalytic passage and forming a converging part. CONSTITUTION:This exhaust emission control system is provided with an adsorptive passage 1 equipped with an adsorbent capable of adsorbing a harmful component such as hydrocarbon or the like in exhaust gases and a catalytic passage 2 provided with at least one catalytic body to reduce the harmful component in the exhaust gas. In this constitution, an outlet of the adsorptive passage 1 is so constituted that it converges in the upstream of the specified catalytic body A in the catalytic passage 2, thereby forming a converging part 5 there. Exhaust gas to be produced in time of starting an internal combustion engine flows in both these passage of the adsorptive passages 1 and the catalytic passage 2 after being branched off at the specified rate. In addition, In a stage that the harmful component adsobed is getting to separate from the adsorbent with a temperature rise in the adsorbent, the catalytic body A in the downstream of the converging part 5 is made into a state of being activated. Thus, the harmful component in the exhaust gas is effectively controllable in this way. |
