<p>A laminated material, especially for internal or external wall facing panels, consists of a layer of rock (3), especially a decorative rock such as marble, attached by an adhesive layer (6) to at least one sheet of glass (5). The laminated material is translucent, making it suitable for back-lighting, and the adhesive is transparent and based on a polyurethane thermoplastic. In a variant the adhesive can be a pre-formed layer of a thermoplastic material e.g. polyurethane, polyvinylbutyral, ethylene vinyl acetate or silicone. The rock and glass layers are treated prior to assembly to give them improved adhesion, e.g. by coating them with a resin reticulated by gamma rays, or by priming with an organosilane material, e.g. gamma -glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane. The assembled layers of the material are joined together by subjecting them to a pressure of 10 bars and a temperature of 140 degrees C for 5 hours. Also claimed is the manufacture of the laminated material.</p> |
