Provided is a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, which shows a high voltage and has excellent safety, charge/discharge cycle characteristics and high-temperature storage characteristics. The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises a cathode, an anode, a separator and a non-aqueous electrolyte and has a cathode potential of 4.35 V or higher vs. lithium potential after the completion of charge. The cathode comprises, as a cathode active material, a layered or spinel-like lithium-containing composite oxide at least comprising manganese as a constitutional element. The non-aqueous electrolyte comprises at least one additive selected from the group consisting of sulfonic anhydride, sulfonic ester derivative, cyclic sulfate ester derivative and cyclic sulfonic acid ester derivative represented by the following formulae 1-4, and vinylene carbonate or a derivative thereof. |
