PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for producing sodium hypochlorite by electrolysis of saline water, which can easily attach and detach an electrolysis unit to and from an electrolysis tank, and can further streamline a checking, repairing, replacing, and the other operation for the electrolysis unit than the conventional devices. SOLUTION: This device comprises arranging a detachable electrolysis unit 18 having several electrode plates 19, in which saline water to be electrolyzed circulates upward from the bottom to the top between the electrode plates 19, in an electrolytic tank 17, making the shape of the electrolytic tank 17 thin and vertically oriented, providing an open end 21 for attaching/detaching the electrolysis unit 18 on the side of electrolytic tank 17, and releasably inserting the electrolysis unit 18 from opening 21 along a cross direction, and providing an inflow distribution part 23 of the saline water at the bottom of the electrolysis unit 18, and a draining part 24 of the electrolysis gas on the upside of the electrolysis unit 18.
