PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method which improves the color and visibility of a fine line and a small character, while maintaining high speed and high image quality, when a black or gray image is printed and to provide an image forming apparatus using the image forming method. SOLUTION: In the image forming method in which the black or gray image is formed in such a manner that a dot pattern line comprising black dots formed by black ink and a dot pattern line comprising spurious black dots formed by inks of plurality of colors except the black ink are alternately arranged based on printing raster data produced from black or gray image data, if based on raster data in such a state that it is converted from the image data, when such a spurious black dot that the black dot does not adjacently exist in the alternate arrangement direction is generated, pattern matching processing is performed to add the black dot to the adjacent part of the spurious black dot in the alternate arrangement direction and to perform printing.
