PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery capable of achieving both input/output characteristics in normal use and reliability in overcharge at a high level, and a negative electrode for the battery.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, there is provided a negative electrode including negative electrode active material powder. The negative electrode active material powder is provided with the following conditions: (1) the circularity is 0.94 or less; and (2) the BET specific surface area based on the krypton adsorption method is 3.6 m/g or more and 4.3 m/g or less.
