A polyester compound produced by reacting: (1) a compound represented by formula (1):wherein R1 is a hydroxy group, a halogen atom, an alkoxy group, a cycloalkyloxy group, an aryloxy group, a group ˜OM, or a group —O—Si(R2)3, where M is a metal atom and R2 is an alkyl group; XDc is a divalent aromatic group optionally having a substituent; YDc is —O—, —N═N—, a carbonyl group, an alkenylene group optionally having a substituent, or a single bond; nDc is an integer of 0 to 2; the two R1 may be the same as or different from each other; when there are a plurality of XDc, they may be the same as or different from each other; and when there are a plurality of YDc, they may be the same as or different from each other, with (2) a compound represented by formula (2):wherein R4 is a hydrogen atom, an acyl group, or a group —Si(R5)3, where R5 is an alkyl group; X is a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group optionally having a substituent; Y is an imino group optionally having a substituent, a divalent aromatic group optionally having a substituent, an oxyalkylene group optionally having a substituent, a group —S(═O)2—, or an alkylene group optionally having a substituent; Z is a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group optionally having a substituent or a single bond; n is an integer of 0 to 5; the two R4 may be the same as or different from each other; when there are a plurality of Y, they may be the same as or different from each other; and when there are a plurality of Z, they may be the same as or different from each other.
