The invention relates to a device and a method for verifying documents of value, such as banknotes, security papers, credit cards, debit cards, identification cards, passports, certificates, admission tickets, drawing lots and the like, labels, packagings, excise stamps, tear strips on cigarette packs or other elements for product safety or marketing actions, which comprise a substrate having at least one light-transmissive area, wherein a first piece of information is arranged in at least one light-transmissive area of the substrate. A separate display consisting of a grid-like array of pixels is used, wherein at least certain areas of a second piece of information are shown by way of the separate display, which is correlated with the first piece of information. In the first and/or in the second piece of information, an additional piece of information is hidden, which without auxiliary means cannot be discerned and/or read by an observer. The substrate containing the first piece of information thereof is superimposed onto the second piece of information that is shown on the separate display, wherein the hidden information can be discerned and/or read. According to the invention, the first piece of information is formed by light-transmissive diffractive structures, the surfaces of which have a coating that is at least partially reflective. The at least partially reflective coating is hereby formed of elements arranged in a grid-like manner, wherein the grid-like array of these elements is adapted to the grid-like array of the pixels of the display. |
