PURPOSE:To obtain a flat silver halide emulsion high in sensitivity and improved in pressure characteristics by forming the emulsion composed of specified silver iodobromide, chlorobromide, chloroiodobromide, or chloroiodide and a dispersing medium. CONSTITUTION:The silver halide emulsion is composed of the dispersing medium and the flat silver halide grains, and >=50% of the total grains in the emulsion have >=0.4mum diameters and each has an average aspect ratio of >=2, and a substantially laminated structure in the direction in parallel to the 2 principal planes opposite to each other, and each layer of the laminated structure is different in an average halide composition from the adjacent layer by at least 1mol%; for example, when silver iodobromide or chlorobromide is used, the content of iodide or bromide, that of chloride or bromide is different from the adjacent layer by at least 1mol%, and it is preferred to be different by 1-50mol%, especially, 2-40mol%, thus permitting the obtained photosensitive material to be improved in pressure effect resistance and enhanced in sensitivity. |
