PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new technology for manufacturing a device wherein a fullerene or a metal-containing fullerene MÐCxx is included in a carbon nanotube, and to provide a quantum effect device using the technology. SOLUTION: In the peapod hetero-junction structure 81 forming a double barrier quantum well structure, a first structure 83a having a first band gap, a second structure 85a having a wider second band gap than the first structure 83a, a third structure 87 having a narrower third band gap than the second structure 85a, a fourth structure 85b having the second band gap, and a fifth structure 83b having the first band gap, are formed in order in the extending direction within an SWNT (single walled nanotube) of several nm in diameter.
