A shaft (10) is mounted rotatably in a fixed holder (1) to which the axially movable carrier (8) is coupled. A moving shaft (12) mounted in the carrier (8) is coupled to the fixed shaft (10) for relative axial movement and can rotate with it. A locking motor (23), redn. gear (24), bolt (25), pressure element (29) and counterplate (30) regulate the friction between the holder (1) and the carrier (8) so that they are coupled rigidly in normal operation, but can collapse when a drive (14-16) is activated. The drive motors (14-16) are controlled by a CPU. ADVANTAGE - Rigidity is increased without additional resistance to sliding or shifting of movable carrier and shaft.
