A vinyl-backed carpet structure (31) is disclosed which includes an oleophobic barrier layer (41) which prevents chemical migration into or out of the vinyl backing layer (39). In a preferred aspect, the carpet structure (31) is made self-adhesive by incorporating a layer of pressure sensitive adhesive (43) below the barrier layer (41). Also, a release sheet (45) is applied to the pressure sensitive adhesive (43) which is adapted to be pulled off to expose the pressure sensitive adhesive (43). In the preferred aspect, the oloeophobic barrier layer (41) prevents migration of the plasticizer from the vinyl backing layer (39) into the layer of pressure sensitive adhesive (43) which would otherwise be incompatible with the vinyl backing layer (39). Preferably, the carpet structure is manufactured in a six foot width. |
