The invention concerns a double acting hydraulic cylinder (1) with axial locking device, comprising a cylinder chamber delimited by two coaxial cylindrical walls (26, 27) with different diameters, connected by a conical wall (25). A guiding piston (7) sliding in the cylindrical wall (26) with small diameter, is fixed to the end of a cylinder rod (9). Said cylinder rod (9) comprises an annular protuberance (33) having a diameter equal to the diameter of the cylindrical wall (26). An annular tapered piston (40), providing tightness between the two cylinder chambers, is mounted sliding on the median portion (34) of the cylinder rod between the piston (7) and the annular protuberance (33). When the cylinder extends, the tapered end of the annular piston (40) presses on the conical surfaces (46) of the two half- crowns (41a, 41b) and tends to drive back the latter outwards. When the half - crowns are opposite the cylindrical wall (27) with large diameter, the half- crowns (41a, 41b) are driven back outwards, and the tapered end (44) of the annular piston (40) is interposed between them and the median portion (34) o f the cylinder rod.
