PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear face irradiation type imaging element capable of improving sensitivity more than conventional ones, and to provide a driving apparatus and an imaging apparatus both provided with the imaging element, and a driving method of the imaging element.SOLUTION: A driving apparatus 10 comprises: a rear face electrode voltage applying unit 11 which applies, to a rear face electrode, a DC voltage of a predetermined voltage amplitude as a drive voltage &phgr;BS; a gate electrode voltage applying unit 12 which applies, to a charge collection gate 21, a DC voltage higher than the drive voltage &phgr;BS as drive voltage &phgr;G1; a gate electrode voltage applying unit 13 which applies a drive voltage &phgr;G2 to a charge collection gate 22; a stored transfer applying unit 14 which applies a drive voltage &phgr;M to a CCD memory 27; a vertical transfer voltage applying unit 15 which applies a drive voltage &phgr;V to a VCCD 28; and a horizontal transfer voltage applying unit 16 which applies a drive voltage &phgr;H to an HCCD memory 29. |
