<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode for a discharge lamp capable of operating stably at the high output time of an arc lamp, and an arc lamp. SOLUTION: This cathode is provided with cathode base material 11 formed by forming a cavity 12 inside high melting point metal having a sharp tip and a through hole 13 passing through formed therefrom to the tip, and an electron emitting material 14 filled in the cavity 12. A cathode base material 11 surface expecting at least the opening of the through hole 13 of the cathode base material 11 tip, to be a cathode luminescent point, and its peripheral edge is coated with high melting point metal carbide 15.</p> |
