PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical pencil, which can easily be recognized as one with shakable leads in appearance and the lead of which extended beyond the tip part of a main body can easily be retracted through the operation with the thumb of a hand holding the main body without changing the main body from its writing posture. SOLUTION: At this mechanical pencil, a weight body 13 is acted on a lead delivering part 5 by shaking a main body 2 so as to deliver the lead 1 from the tip part of the main body through the actuation of this lead delivering part. In response to the range, during which at least the weight body 13 acts upon the lead delivering part 5, an opening part 20, through which the weight body 13 is exposed, is formed on the side face of the main body 2 so as to allow to operate the weight body 13 through the opening part 20 with a finger.
