A method for using a multi-key in a mobile terminal comprising a rotary input unit is provided to use a multi-key in a mobile terminal comprising a rotary input unit which is operated as a number key. A mobile terminal(10) comprises a transceiver part(100), a jog disk(110), an input part(120), a memory part(130), a display part(140), and a control part(150). The transceiver part(100), communicating with a base station through an antenna, transmits and receives data such as music, photos, moving pictures and messages. The jog disk(110) generates basic input signals according to basic rotation angles. If the jog disk(110) is rotated in a specific direction, the jog disk generates the first signal. The input part(120) comprises various keys including number keys and a function key(122). If the function key(122) is selected while the jog disk(110) is being rotated in the specific direction, the jog disk(110) generates the second input signal. The memory part(130) stores direction information corresponding to the first input signal and the second input signal. The display part(140) displays various information signals including data, such as music, photos, moving pictures, messages, etc., received from the transceiver part(100). The control part(150), if the first input signal or the second input signal is generated from the jog disk(110), outputs the first output signal or the second output signal, based on the direction information stored in the memory part(130).
