摘要 790,914. Telegraph exchange systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 4, 1954 [June 10, 1953], No. 15939/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (3). In a telegraph exchange system comprising a number of non-expendible message stores, such as tracks on a magnetic drum, with automatic switching equipment for distributing incoming messages from a number of incoming channels to empty stores available to all said channels and automatically allocated when required for use, together with supervisory storage equipment to record the identity of each incoming message and the empty store or stores to which it has been allocated and means for determining the order of retransmission of all stored messages, means are incorporated for retransmitting each of the stored messages in accordance with destination information carried by each message directly from the store or stores in which it was originally stored. In the arrangement described, storage members, additional to those used as the main or message stores, are included between the latter and the outgoing line, but these serve primarily as operational devices, and incidentally as temporary stores, for enabling a change in transmission speed to be effected between the rate at which the characters are detected and read off from the main storage member or members and passed to registers operating to pass on the telegraph signals at the normal teleprinter speed. Apart from these " speed-changing " devices, the retransmission of the message takes place directly from the member or members of the common store in which the incoming message has been recorded for subsequent disposal. The identification of the message in the common store may be determined by the number of the incoming line, the priority of the message and the number or numbers of the common storage tracks on which the message is to be found. The description, in so far as it relates to the reception of the message, storage on one or more of the tracks of the common store, the registration of the message on a booking track, and the operation of discriminating means to detect the completed message of highest priority in the common store and the presentation of the first line of the message on an operator's teleprinter, is substantially identical with that inincluded in Specifications 788,991 and 788,992. The further arrangements for disposing of the message and described in connection with Figs. 22 to 29 (not shown) relate to the association of an outgoing line track on the drum with a register for passing the characters to the selected outgoing line at teleprinter speed, and automatic means for connecting the line track to the track or tracks of the common store in accordance with the information on the booking track pertaining to the message selected for disposal by reason of its priority. The operation of keys by an operator initiates the booking operation, selects the line for which the message is intended and a combination of keys represents in binary form the priority of the message. When the next free section of the booking track is reached, the priority of the message is recorded followed by the binary equivalent of the tens and units numbers of the common storage track containing the message. If the outgoing line associated with the booking track is free the message priorities set up in the booking track are examined and when the highest priority has been found, this information is erased from the booking track and the booking information set up on a pattern register used in the priority comparison is utilized to connect the common storage track to the line track leading to the pattern movement register for transferring the telegraph characters to the outgoing line. This is effected by two ten-position switches which are stepped to positions corresponding to the number of the common storage track carrying the message and allow the outputs of the associated read head to pass to the record head co-operating with the outgoing line track. Specifications 713,902, [Group XL (c)], and 762,094 also are referred to.
