In order to make it easier to stand up from wheelchair (1), the top part (3) of the wheelchair (1) is arranged tiltably with respect to the bottom part (2). A spring element (4), which comprises a gas spring (7), assists with the forwards tilting. According to the invention, the spring element (4) also comprises a coil spring (8) with a preferably adjustable free travel (A). This facilitates moving the top part (3) upwards from the rear position without making the backwards tilting significantly more difficult.
