A processing aid contains (a) an amine oxide of formula (I), (b) a cpd. of formula R2-U-(R3-O)m-W and (c) an organic solvent, where R = 8-24C aliphatic gp., R1 = 1-24C (1-6C) aliphatic gp., opt. substd. with OH, R2 = 8-24C aliphatic gp., R3 = 2-4C alkylene, W, W1 = H or 1-6C alkyl opt. substd. with OH, COOH, NCO, Ph, benzyloxymethylene or phenethyloxymethylene, U = -O- or -C(O)N(ZW1)-, Z = direct bond, (R3-O)r or 1-6C alkylene, m, r = 2-25. Pref. the compsn. contains (a) N,N-bis-( beta -hydroxyethyl)-N-oleyl amine oxide or other amine oxide; (b) a fatty alcohol glycol ether of formula C18H35-C-(CH2CH2O)2-25H (3a) or C18H37-O-(CH2CH2O)2-25H (3b) or a mixt. of C16H33-O-(CH2CH2O)2-25H (3c) and C18H38-O-(CH2CH2O)2-25H (3d) or a co-fatty alcohol glycol ether or tallow fatty alcohol glycol ether with 2-25 EO units, or an ethoxylate of co-fatty acid mono- or di-ethanolamide of tallow fatty acid mono- or di-ethanolamide, or of oleic acid mono- or di-ethanolamide all with 2-25 EO units; and (c) an alkylene glycol or a 1-6C aliphatic mono- or di-alcohol. The ratio by wt. of (a):(b) is 1:10-10:1 (2:5-5:2). The compsn. pref. contains (I) and (2a) or (2) in ratio by wt. of 2:3-3:2. The compsn. may contain water.
