The monorail transport system has a monorail along which a transport carriage (4) is displaced via an associated drive, with a carrier device attached to the carriage for supporting the transported load. At least one section of the monorail is provided by a switched section which can be displaced vertically out of the transport path, e.g. via a flexible linkage at one end, for removal of the carriage. The monorail may be U-shaped for reception of electrical current supply and control cables.
