A method for optimising a spectacle lens with varying focus, e.g. for vari-focus spectacles, compares the available parameters of a lens with the optimum required parameters using a best fit function and with a least squares method, for either the front or rear face of the lens. The actual and optimum values are entered into a computer programme automatically.
