PURPOSE: To provide a method for selecting a polymer used for a separation- active layer which has high separation ability and high permeability with respect to acidic gases such as carbon dioxide, and further, to provide an acidic gas separation membrane that is provided with the separation-active layer comprising a polymer selected by the method. CONSTITUTION: This method comprises: determining a stable state of a molecular model system in a separation-active layer, where a polymer and an acidic gas coexist and a stable state of another molecular model system in the layer, where the polymer and a non-acidic gas coexist by a method using molecular mechanics, respectively; and selecting the objective polymer that consists of a molecular structure in which the inertial radius of the polymer is within the range of 10 to 200Åand the absolute value of stabilized energy by the interaction between the polymer and the acidic gas is 4 to 80 times as much as that by the interaction between the polymer and the non-acidic gas.
