<p>A carbon dioxide engine having a sealed housing (101), an inner chamber (103) having a circular cross-section and formed in the housing (101), and a rotor (115) provided in the inner chamber (103) so as to be rotatable about a rotor shaft (116). When the rotor (115) is rotated, the inner chamber (103) is partitioned into a primary operation chamber (121) and a secondary operation chamber (122). A gas supply opening (117) and gas discharge opening (119) are formed in the housing (101). The gas discharge opening is formed at a portion slightly closer to the secondary operation chamber than a diameter line passing the gas supply opening. A gas supply valve (125) for opening and closing the gas supply opening (117) is provided in the engine. In the primary operation chamber (121), high-pressure carbon dioxide (35a) is sub-expanded within the limit of the volume of the chamber, and force by the sub-expansion shifts the rotor to an expansion and discharge stroke. Because the discharge opening is "open" in the expansion and discharge stroke, the carbon dioxide expands in a chain reaction and expansion force by such expansion rotates the rotor (115). In an atmospheric pressure holding stroke, the rotor rates by inertia force.</p> |
