PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel manufacturing method of 4,5-dimethyl-[1,3]-diselenol-2-selone that permits synthesis under a safer and milder condition and easy industrialization. SOLUTION: A dialkyl 2-thioxo-[1,3]-diselenol-4,5-dicarboxylate as a starting raw material is treated with a reducing agent to form 4,5-bis-hydroxymethyl-[1,3]-diselenol-2-thione, which is halogenated and reduced to form 4,5-dimethyl-[1,3]-diselenol-2-thione. This compound is treated with a methylating agent followed by a reaction with a secondary amine and subsequently a reaction with sodium hydrogen selenide to give 4,5-dimethyl-[1,3]-diselenol-2-selone.
