A peg board strip having raised outer edges which allows the strip to mourn to a surface while still allowing the back surface to remain a predetermined distance from the mounting surface. The device can be used as a furring device for other peg board sheets. The device is capable of being manufactured in variety of lengths, widths a nd thicknesses' increasing its flexibility in application. A peg board that is a flat board having equally spaced, and parallel horizontal ridges, depending from the back, that form areas between the ridges, said ridges being located such that the hanger openings are located essentially in the center of the areas that are formed by the parall el horizontal and parallel vertical ridges. A peg board that is a flat board having equally spaced diagonal ridges depending from the back that form areas between the ridges.
