PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stitch balancing thread tension device of a sewing machine capable of stably applying a fine tension to a needle via a thread take-up lever and capable of sewing a thin fabric and a soft fabric into a favorable quality without causing seam defect. SOLUTION: This stitch balancing thread tension device includes: a rotating drum 51 retaining a sub thread tension unit 5, which applies a pretension to the needle thread 2 to be fed to a main thread tension unit 4 of a rotational resistance type, with the needle thread 2 wound therearound a plurality of times at a certain interval apart in the width direction of the outer circumference, and rotating about a shaft; a push spring 53 applying a pushing force to the rotating drum 51; and an adjustment knob 52 for adjusting to increase/decrease a spring force of the push spring 53. Thread guide members 8 extending in the width direction of the rotating drum 53 are formed with guide grooves, and the needle thread 2 to be wound around the rotating drum 51 is hung to the guide grooves so that the circumferential lengths of the needle thread 2 are subsequently getting shorter from the thread supply source toward the side of the main thread tension unit 4.
