Device for protecting an ostomy bag (3) comprising a hollow rigid shell (1) able to cover said bag (3), and a retaining crown or ring (10) secured to the edge of said shell (3) and open on its periphery so as to allow said crown (10) to be slid, when the device is being fitted over the bag (3) over the top, when the patient is standing upright, and the open central part of the retaining band (10) of which is able to allow the passage of the inlet orifice (12) of the pouch (3) once this pouch is connected to the stoma, that is to say to the orifice (8) via which stools pass through the skin (13) of a patient.
