摘要 An array substrate for a COT LCD and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce short-circuit of a gate pad and a data pad by forming an organic insulating material layer for planarizing a black matrix and a color filter pattern to have a thin thickness in gate and data link parts. Gate lines(113) and data lines intersect each other on one surface of a substrate including an active area displaying an image, and gate and data link parts, and gate and data pad parts outside the active area, and define a plurality of sub-pixel areas in the active area. A thin film transistor is formed at each intersection of the gate lines and the dat alines. A first passivation layer(142) is formed on the active area, and the gate and data link parts as well as on the thin film transistor. Red, green and blue color filter patterns are sequentially and repetitively formed on the first passivation layer of the sub-pixel areas. A second passivation layer is formed of an organic insulating material on the black matrix and the red, green and blue color filter patterns, has a first thickness corresponding to the active area, and portions of the gate and data link parts, has a second thickness thinner than the first thickness in the gate and data line parts adjacent to the gate and data pad parts, and is not formed corresponding to the gate and data pads. The second passivation layer includes a drain contact hole corresponding to a drain electrode of each sub-pixel area, and a plurality of first and second contact holes corresponding to the gate and data link parts, and the gate and data lines. A pixel electrode contacts the drain electrode through the drain contact hole on the second passivation layer, and is formed in each sub-pixel area. Gate and data pads are formed of the same material as that of the pixel electrode, contact the gate and data lines through the plurality of first and second contact holes over the second passivation layer having the second thickness with respect to the gate and data link parts, and extend to the gate and data pad parts.
