<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame retardant composition without forming toxic gas on burning or eluting a toxic material on disposal, equipped with excellent mechanical characteristics and electric characteristics and a highly flame retardant property represented by the UL VW-1 jointly, and an electric wire using the flame retardant composition. <P>SOLUTION: This flame retardant composition is obtained by mixing 100 pts.wt. mixture of an olefin-based polymer and a metal hydrate, 0.5-4 pts.wt. acid-modified polyolefin and 1-45 pts.wt. urea resin powder. The flame retardant composition contains the urea resin powder having 0.1-5 μm particle diameter. The flame retardant composition is provided by further mixing 0.1-3.0 pts.wt. coloring agent based on 100 pts.wt. mixture of the olefin-based polymer and the metal hydrate.
