Magnetooptical data disc having at least one optically transparent, dimensionally stable backing and at least one magnetooptical recording layer composed of a chromium-containing lanthanide transition-metal alloy in which the chromium concentration varies in the horizontal direction, and a process for producing the magnetooptical data disc.
