Process for electrolytic recovery of a metal, which consists in electrolysing an acidic solution of the metal, the solution containing, in the dissolved state, an anionic or cationic polyelectrolyte which is ionised under the conditions of electrolysis which are employed and whose molecule has a hydrophobic fragment, so that the surface tension of the surface of the bath is reduced sufficiently to produce a foam. The process according to the invention is more particularly capable of being used in processes for the electrolytic recovery of zinc.
