PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an uniformed orientation by providing a liquid crystal transferred from spray orientation toπ-twist orientation or bend orientation, and a nuclear generating means for promoting the transfer from spray orientation toπ-twist orientation or bend orientation. SOLUTION: A polyimide orienting film 15 is formed on surfaces of glass substrates 1, 20 with ITO 51, the substrates 1, 20 are rubbed in the same direction, and stuck together so that a liquid crystal is spray oriented through spacer beads 11. In the spacer dispersion for gap formation, silica beads 12 are mixed with the spacer beads 11 and dispersed as spherical grains which are nucleus generating means. When a voltage is applied between the substrates 1, 20, the distortion of spray orientation is increased to generate normal domain nucleuses having bend orientation orπ-twist orientation are generated during the spray orientation, and the transfer to stable bend orientation orπ-twist orientation is caused. The normal domain nucleuses having bend orientation orπ-twist orientation are generated and grown in large quantities and extended to the whole area.
