Disclosed is a material processing method. The material processing method comprises: a step of applying a laser beam (5); a step of sending the laser beam to a processing place (6) to melt a material (3) in the processing place; and a step of allowing shield gas to flow, wherein the flow of the shield gas is controlled in accordance with one or more from the position of the processing place, a processing advance vector, and a processing trajectory. As such, the present invention reduces processing costs.
