The invention provides an improved service to commuters at vehicle Stop locations (Stop) by announcing at each Stop on the route, on a visible display device, and by audio announcement, the expected time delay of arrival of the next vehicle. The information is derived by passing information by digital radio transmission from Stop to St op in a dynamic cascading flow of information, without the need for a central authority to b e aware of the location of each vehicle. A device inside the vehicle, operated by the drive r, reports by digital radio transmission to the immediate Stop ahead the vehicle's imminen t arrival, thus initiating the cascading flow of information from Stop to Stop down the line , and also announces inside the vehicle the name of each Stop location through a pre- recorded announcement of good clarity. The route information is stored on a removable memory device that is inserted into the device in the vehicle at the start of a route.
