The reinforcement arrangement for the instrument panel cross member has a support console assembly (14) supporting the cockpit cross member (10) and forming in the transverse area of the steering column (24) a number of twin-channel-like console regions which are arranged side by side in the transverse direction of the vehicle. When viewed in the cross direction of the vehicle the console regions are set symmetrical to the axis of rotation of the steering column.
