The device has a cooking vessel with a vessel base (2) that is at a height of 1 centimeter (cm) above a gutter. A holding device (8) e.g. wire mesh, made up of metal rests on a pot carrier and over the vessel base. A foodstuff that has to be cooked is placed over the device (8) by a skewer such that the foodstuff is held at a height above the base. The juice obtained during cooking flows into the gutter. An independent claim is also a method for cooking a foodstuff.
