COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR TREATMENT AND REPAIR OF DEFECTS OR LESIONS IN ARTICULAR CARTILAGE USING SYNOVIAL-DERIVED TISSUE OR CELLS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple, rapid, and highly reliably treatment in superficial or full-thickness cartilage defects (e.g., the defects found in a serious mechanical injury and osteoarthritis).

SOLUTION: Methods are provided for treatment of cartilage defects in animals and humans, including: a process for taking out a part of synovial tissue from the animal; and a process for filling the cartilage defects with the synovial tissue. In one embodiment, the synovial tissue is mixed with a biodegradable matrix so as to implant both the substances to the defects.
