<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Sm<SB>2</SB>Co<SB>17</SB>-based sintered magnet capable of solving a problem that hydrogen embrittlement occurs in a hydrogen atmosphere and thereby chipping, cracking, or powdering occur. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a method of preventing hydrogen embrittlement of a sintered rare earth magnet, wherein in a sintered rare earth magnet composed of R (wherein R is Sm or two or more kinds of rare-earth elements containing Sm of 50 wt.% or more) of 20-30 wt.%, Fe of 10 to 45 wt.%, Cu of 1 to 10 wt.%, Zr of 0.5 to 5 wt.%, a balance Co, with inevitable impurities, on the surface of this magnet, a metal oxide layer and/or a metal nitride layer is formed directly or through plated metallic layers. By a Sm<SB>2</SB>Co<SB>17</SB>-based sintered magnet of the present invention, it is possible to obtain a sintered rare earth magnet that does not cause hydrogen embrittlement even in a hydrogen atmosphere and can be used for motors, etc. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
